What’s It Like Studying: Bachelor of Creative Writing and Literature

Last year I wrote a blog post about studying a Cert IV and Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing (You can find that post HERE). That post was written because I wanted to talk about how beneficial the course was for me and to mention that I would be continuing my studying this year with a Bachelor degree. I started my Bachelor, and I have a lot of thoughts on it.

I definitely feel there are pros and cons to studying. It opens your horizons and opportunities, especially for jobs. But it can also be a lot of pressure. HECS debt (Aussie university debt system) is nothing to kid around with. It can be super expensive to study and the debt can loom over your head for years after you have finished. There’s also the pressure to pass and do well, which can become debilitating. (more…)

V.E Schwab’s Tolkien Lecture: ‘In Search of Doors’

In May of this year, author, and queen of my lil writing heart, V.E Schwab (AKA Victoria Schwab) was the speaker at Oxfords Tolkien Lecture. I’ve watched the speech a few times now and I have a lot of thoughts.

I really look up to Victoria and her writing style sings to my soul so when I saw that the video of her speech was finally up online I was very excited. (more…)

REVIEW: I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara

‘I’ll Be Gone in the Dark’ by Michelle McNamara is a True Crime novel about the Golden State Killer, also known as the East Area Rapist and Original Night Stalker. The book really became a hot topic after the capture of the Golden State Killer earlier in 2018.

I had been hunting for this book for a while but its popularity made it a little harder to come by. I was so glad and excited when I finally got it.

The GSK/EAR-ONS was a serial killer/rapist in California in the 70’s. He was active across quite a large area and for a fair number of years. He raped around 50 women and killed 10 people. (more…)
