It’s NaNoWriMo day 22 and I have written approx 200 words! WOO!
I swear, I tried! I started off very hopeful but, as has been the norm for the last few NaNos, life got in the way. It’s an easy excuse but it’s all I’ve got.
That’s not to say I haven’t tried. I’ve sat down and stared at my laptop for half an hour without typing a single word. It’s been hard because I really wanted to utilise this month and get a lot of writing done.
I’ve been out of inspiration ever since finishing uni and I can’t blame myself for that. After a year of forcing myself to be creative for uni, pushing through writer’s block and inspiration drought, I’m a little bit tired. NaNo is a hard battle and when you have no words to write it can really become stressful and soul-crushing, maybe a little melodramatic but when you want to be creative and get work done but can’t, it really can feel that way.
If you’ve ever done NaNoWriMo before, you’ll understand the pressure that can come with it. If you want to do well and reach 50,000 words it can be a little bit stressful so if you’re in the same boat as me please don’t stress yourself out! If you have 8,000 words or 200 words, well done! Any achievement during NaNo is a GREAT achievement, even if you don’t reach that 50,000 goal.
Nine Days to Go!
I’m not giving up! I still have some time to try and get some ideas flowing. My new game plan is to work on smaller ideas instead of in a linear fashion. I’m going to allow myself to just write random scenes when I feel like it and hopefully that will not only get me a bit of a word count, but also a little more confidence and inspiration!
Once I’m on my USA holiday I’m most definitely giving myself a well earned holiday. In the meantime I have a NaNoWriMo word count to crush!
