On October 23rd, I’m going to be catching a plane from Australia to Bali! I never thought I’d be heading to Bali this year but when the opportunity to go to the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival came up, I jumped at the chance.
The Festival, in its 15th year of running, is located in Ubud, a little way outside of Denpasar and calls itself ‘an annual pilgrimage for lovers of literature and conversation’.
To say I am excited is an understatement.

In May of this year, author, and queen of my lil writing heart, V.E Schwab (AKA Victoria Schwab) was the speaker at Oxfords Tolkien Lecture. I’ve watched the speech a few times now and I have a lot of thoughts.

In December of 2017, I went to America with my bestie, Georgia! This trip was a year in the making and one of the coolest experiences of my life.
We started our trip in LA for two days and even though it was winter the weather was glorious! We went on a Hop On, Hop Off bus and got to experience Santa Monica Pier. We walked the Hollywood Walk of Fame and ate an obnoxiously big meal at the Hardrock Cafe.

Travel is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.
I went on my gap year trip in 2015 thinking it would be just a fun and relaxing holiday to celebrate finishing year twelve. I had no idea that my England and Europe adventure would change me in such astounding ways.
Travelling is important for everyone, I firmly believe that. Discovering new countries and cultures opens you up to a whole new understanding of the world. When we immerse ourselves in these foreign places and not only observe but also take part in life, we are learning more; growing personally and culturally and etching away at our comfort and ignorance.
