A brand new Bookstore Appreciation Post! Straight outta the Americas, this is Maria’s Bookshop in Durango, Colorado.
This was one of the first bookshops I visited and probably one of my favourite moments from my trip. Definitely one of my top bookstores!
I wandered the streets of Durango and found this absolute gem. The store was a good size and so well laid out. The shelves wrapped the entire building and there was a bunch of shelves in the middle of the store too. It felt open and warm and welcoming. There was great decor on the walls and such a good selection, the place had a great vibe.
My absolute favourite part of this bookstore: the ladders! And you’re actually allowed the climb them! This was such a cool experience. I’ve been to other bookstores with ladders but they were for staff only (boring) but at Maria’s you’re encouraged to climb up and take a look at the books. I, of course, took full advantage of this.
Another favourite thing for me was the staff. They were super friendly and helpful. I chatted with two different employees and was really happy with how willing they were to help me and also just chat books! When they didn’t have a book I was looking for they called two other bookstores in the area to check. It was so nice of them and I can totally commend them for their customer service.
So, if you’re planning a trip to the USA, maybe put Durango on your list of places to visit! Not only does it have some great outdoor activities on offer, it’s also home to Maria’s and you really won’t regret it.
